Just Ask…

It’s not “YOU”.  You know that, right?

I’ve been in business for myself, and/or in some sort of sales or recruiting for over 15 years now. I have cultivated friends and relationships around the world. Remember this: Whether it is a new client or a new friend, you cannot say the wrong thing to the right person ~ and you cannot say the right thing to the wrong person.

It doesn’t matter if you are trying to make a sale, recruit a volunteer host family or even get a date … the only way to mess it up is to not say anything at all.  Just Ask!

Some folks will be your people and some folks will NOT be your people. Some belong in your tribe, some do not.  It’s never personal.  Really, it’s not.  It boils down to whatever frequency people are living on. One is not better than; or less than, another. They are just different.

Now it may sound like hocus pocus hogwash hooey to you, but think of life like this.  We are all basically an energy frequency. Some vibrations match and some do not. Let’s say you are a “square peg” and you are trying to fit into a “round hole.” You can’t fit a square peg into a round hole.  That is not a match.   Such is the same if you are expending your energy into activities that do not align with your core values.

Have you ever absolutely been crushing on someone and they did not return your interest? Ever been disappointed because you thought you and someone hit it off and would be great friends, and they disappear, or blow you off?  Remember my dear – you can be the best, sweetest peach of all the peaches, but that person of interest might prefer oranges. It’s not you, it’s just not a match.  No biggie.  It’s never personal.

Sometimes your success is dependent more on courage than anything else, but maybe courage is just your level of understanding. After all  — there is no real danger in asking, but we get so scared of failing like there is some sort of danger in being rejected. Edison had to disqualify 10,000 ways it didn’t work first, before he got it right.

So what are you doing right now?  Are you spinning your wheels, making progress, falling backwards or what? What holds you back?  What makes you stagnant? What scares you half to death? If you don’t know the answers to those questions, you should. Ask yourself these things. Seriously, just ask.

Debraology

Well, yes I go by ‘The Healthy Habit Lady‘ in this thing called a blog ~  but I do have a real name, and it is Debra.  I think most of you know that.  I was challenged to do a blog post and call it Debraology with all these silly questions, so my readers get to know me better. Do You Plan to Fail?

Do you plan it or wing it?   One of my amazing sisters (in-law) says ‘failure to plan is planning to fail’ … or something like that.  I think she rocks at the whole planning thing, even with three kids.  I kinda stink at this.  Truly, I do.

So I dare to ask you this question: Do you prepare your food in advance? If by chance, you do, then you probably know  this:  It is far easier to reach your nutrition goals when you plan your diet.  If you don’t, that’s fine too, but it means you surely have to plan well for the week that lurks ahead.

When you do not plan in advance, you are far more likely to snatch unhealthy meals, hit up the fast food drive-thru or gulp vending machine snacks ‘on the go’.  Sound familiar? It’s okay, you don’t have to raise your hand.

So many people, busy hard working people, choose those easy options at lunch or breakfast, instead of devouring the good stuff, that nutritious fuel, that will help them reach their goals.   Not to mention, the financial benefit.  I assure you it is usually more cost effective to plan and prepare your own meals as opposed to Starbucks for breakfast and Burger King for lunch. (or Dominoes for dinner, just sayin’)

So, start prepping some of your meals during the weekend when you have more time, it’ll take out the guesswork of what to eat … and benefit you in a huge way.  Try it, I dare you.

To-Don’t List?

Everybody loves to make New Year’s resolutions.  I’m more of a goal girl myself.  Or picking a focus word. Regardless of what you like to do as the calendar turns the page … here is a nice list of things you DO NOT need to do in 2016.  It is just a snippet.  Add to it as you desire.  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

  • Don’t make excuses.
  • Don’t make laziness a habit.
  • Don’t be a slave to other people’s expectations.
  • Don’t compare your body to  anyone else’s.
  • Don’t be a prisoner to clutter.
  • Don’t volunteer for anything out of guilt, but rather passion or interest.
  • Don’t offer to host an event if you’re not up for that.
  • Don’t over-stay your welcome.
  • Don’t monopolize conversation.
  • Don’t be a show-off or one-upper.
  • Don’t eat out of boredom.
  • Don’t wear clothes that do not fit.
  • Don’t sleep your life away.
  • Don’t envy another’s grass, water your own.
  • Don’t lie – especially to yourself.
  • Don’t indulge in procrastination – it is a thief of time.
  • Don’t text and drive.
  • Don’t lose sight of what’s really important to you.
  • Don’t overdraw your bank account.
  • Don’t max out your credit cards.
  • Don’t quit or give up.
  • Don’t limit yourself based on other people’s beliefs.
  • Don’t settle for mediocre.
  • Don’t gossip.
  • Don’t give your phone more attention than your spouse.
  • And last but never least; don’t answer the phone when you’re making love. Now of course; I hope that one is obvious! 🙂

The Enemy of Our Best

You have to decide what your highest priorities are.  Think about your core values. What is truly important to you? When all is said and done, what is your life about? It can be more than one thing, but it probably isn’t 500 things.  Define your core values and then you can figure out your priorities.  If you figure out your priorities, it is easier to set goals.

Write out your 5 priorities.  Seriously.  Right now.  Go ahead.  I’ll wait.  Examples of priorities could be:  Debt free, finishing college, reducing blood pressure, purchasing a home, getting a certification, educating your children at home, reducing body fat, publishing a book, growing a sustainable garden, learning a new language, completing a project, etc.  Did you write out your five?  Great.  So glad you did.

Now, here’s the challenge.  And you thought picking 5 priorities was the hard part, didn’t you?   I dare you to have the courage to calmly, with a smile, non-apologetically, answer “NO” to other things that do not match up with those top 5 priorities and your core values.  How do you do that?  Some of us, *ahem* (myself included), have trouble finding our NO voice.  SOME of us have trouble setting boundaries.  Here’s how you do this.   It is easier to say NO when we have a bigger YES burning inside of us. The enemy of our BEST is often ….simply the good.
