Come on, sing it with me now, you know you’ve heard the song … ‘These boots were made for walking, that’s just what they’ll do, one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!‘ … I have visions in my head of my mother singing that song and dancing around like a crazy lady in our kitchen. Funny, I do the same thing to my kids. Act like a crazy lady singing and dancing that is. In public? In the kitchen? Hiking up a rock? Doesn’t matter.

So let me just say, until yesterday, I had never worn boots in my life, and I am 45 years old. I mean I probably wore snow boots as a child, but that’s about it. I never wore riding boots or cowboy boots or fashion boots. For one thing, I’ve always been sort of ‘function over fashion’, and for another thing — my ginormous calves never fit in boots anyway.
Even after I lost all of this weight, I still have had trouble. I had this grand idea that now I was so much smaller, I could maybe wear these fabulous boots I see all the other moms sporting in the hood. After several attempts and fails, I did not find any boots that would work, except of course for ankle boots.
Now I am happy to report that I am successfully wearing some very cute boots. They fit. I kind of feel like a rock star or something. In the fitness world we call this an NSV (Non-Scale Victory). On the downside; however, seeing as how I have never worn boots in my life … yowzers … I am NOT use to this, lol. They definitely feel different than my sneakers I am normally trekking. I even noticed my feet feeling different as I was driving. Hmmmm…. not sure I like this yet. However; I imagine since the boots are new and the experience is new … it won’t always feel so awkward.
Regardless, it is small victories like this along the journey that just make it all the more sweeter.
