Referrals Are Lifeblood

Referrals are lifeblood and I need your help.

I’m calling on all of my readers and followers to spread the word.

My family and I have been hosting high school foreign exchange students from around the world since 2003. Now two of them are married and one of them even has a baby. It’s so amazing that my kids have friends, we consider family, all over the globe. We are raising our children to embrace cultural diversity – and it begins at home. By the time they are out working in the real world they will have broken bread with, worshiped with and lived with people from all different races, religions, beliefs, traditions, cultures, etc. I honestly believe this is a beautiful thing. We’ve hosted while pregnant, moving, in college, etc. It’s a rewarding experience, and if you would like to find out more about how YOU might be involved or make a difference, message me. There are several students still waiting to be matched with a loving volunteer host family for this academic school year. Spread the word please. The picture is of Marie from Germany – one of our former students who has been back to visit us twice.

Can’t host right now? That’s okay, Refer a family to me who hosts and you will receive $100 referral fee. Can’t host the whole school year? That’s okay too – just host for 3-5 weeks so we can secure their place in the program and the school spot. Sharing is caring … please like, comment and share.

High school foreign exchange students come with their own spending money, their own health insurance and they speak English.  Each and every student has been personally interviewed by our non-profit organization and passed rigorous exams in order to be qualified to come on our program.  These are cream of the crop kids that you do not want to miss out on meeting.

Open your home and heart today to welcome a teenager from another country, help Share Your America and do your part to foster world peace and understanding. Appreciating cultural diversity starts at home, with us, with me, with you.

If you are interested in hosting a high school foreign exchange student, sending me referrals or just finding out more information, please email me at:  debra@facetheworld.org or call 210-510-8697.

Words

The most important words we will ever utter are those words we say to ourselves, about ourselves, when we are by ourselves….

God spoke the world into existence.

J.K. Rowling spoke the world of Harry Potter into existence.

What are you speaking into existence?

Words mean things.

Thoughts lead to actions.

Reading and watching and immersing yourself into something leads to your thoughts.

Control your input to control your output.

My son drew this picture below for me.  I am a horrible domestic engineer and honestly rarely sweep (kids do that).  Thus,  I have no idea why there is a broom in my hands,  but I love how he drew a cell phone to my ear.  I clearly speak a lot of words, ALL of the time. Yes, I can be chatty.  Especially during placement season working our foreign exchange student program. Spring and Summer are always super busy for me matching kids from around the world with volunteer host families.  It is my hope and sincere intention that the words we speak to these kids, in our homes, enrich and add to their experiences, as much as they add to and enrich OUR lives in the process.

Who can you speak life to today?  Who can you encourage?
Even if it is yourself.  Do it.

Carry On ~ Be vigilant. Keep the faith.

Explore The World, Without Leaving Home

Well everybody knows I am all about healthy habits.  One healthy habit I have had since 2003 is hosting and working with high school foreign exchange students.  Yes, I have willing brought in teenagers from other countries into my home and let them live with me for anywhere between a few months to 12 months.  I have hosted kids from Russia, France, Germany, Spain, Mongolia, Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, Brazil, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Korea.  Let me tell you, it has been wondering raising my own children to embrace cultural diversity.  They have broken bread with, traveled with and lived with people from all parts of the globe who know other languages, have different religions, practice different customs, celebrate different holidays, and so on and so forth.

You know what else is awesome?  You can participate in this amazing experience as well. My day-job is Regional Director for a non-profit organization called Face The World. This is something I am very passionate about.  I just love being a cheerleader for these kids and families and help making dreams come true, while forging lifelong relationships across the Globe.

Here are some photos of various foreign exchange students that I have had the pleasure to know.
